Mark 14:3(AKJV) And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. 7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. 8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
In the above mentioned text we see that Jesus was in a middle of a dinner and a woman came out of no where and broke a jar of expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus’s head. This act of love and worship immediately drew the attention of people who were around and they took no time to call it a waste but Jesus valued it. In your walk of faith you will always come across self righteous spiritual hoodlums, people who think that they know it all. They will always be fast to tell you what should have been done. God’s perspective is very different than that of those who are around you. These people who were around Jesus were more focused on meeting the physical needs than worshiping and being with Jesus. The question that came to my heart was, is their a faintest of possibility that Jesus was not aware of the poor people around Him or was He not able to meet their needs. Isn’t He the same God whom we are talking about who fed thousands with a few loaves and fishes.
When we truly understand the fullness of God the way we worship changes most probably this woman was uninvited as it was a lepers home which would have been out of the city gates as per the law, and it was a gathering of men. This woman was so filled with the love for God that she did not wait for any permission from anyone. She came and gave her best to God. The work of the religious spirit is to bind you and turn your focus away from God. Man have been forsaking God’s word for the sake of tradition but the Holy Spirit sets you free and gives you complete freedom to love and serve God.
Whatever you do for Him shall not go to waste but instead you will be rewarded in verse 9 Jesus commanded to mention this woman where ever the Gospel is preached. No one will ever know her name but everyone shall know how she worshiped Jesus . If you are lead by the spirit to do something for Him and please feel free serve and worship Him. Have a powerful day in the presence of Jesus. – Pastor T.Bakshi
