Exodus 18:14 And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?15 And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:16 When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.17 And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
Dear Friends, A lot of sports person sustain injury when they are tired and exhausted and they do not know how much to push their physical limits and in the process they hurt themselves. The question is, if they are training and doing the same routine daily why do they get injured. The answer is they do not know when to pause. In our daily lives this is our state, we are so habitual of doing the same thing periodically that we can’t even think that we are tired doing it or its taking a toll on us.
As we see in the above mentioned scripture Moses was also going through the same state, he had no clue that he was getting consumed by his own people. In other words he was BUSY ” Brought Under Satan’s Yoke” ministering to the needs of his people, whom God had entrusted in his hands. The enemy wants us to be caught up in our daily rut rot so that we don’t do what we are called to do primarily i,e. to spend time in the presence of God.
Thank God for a person like Jethro, who was able to speak into the life of Moses and tell him that, what he was doing will tear him apart slowly. We need godly people who can invest and correct our lives at times. The most outstanding part was Moses’s response to what Jethro said. He took no time to acknowledge what Jethro spoke was a fact and was ready to change his approach. He did not behave as mighty Moses deliverer of Israel and who is this old man and what he knows about leading people. What’s our attitude when the correction is brought to us. If we have an attitude of I know all, then we will surely miss the mark.
It does not mean that we should start paying head to every person and what’s their opinion but a selected few godly men, whom God has placed in our lives and have an attitude of learning, adapting and working towards changing the situation we all know what how Moses selected 70 elders from the Israelite and shared responsibilities with them. Its not bad to ask help. Have a blessed day: Pr. Bakshi – The Well Diggers Ministry
