1“Sing, O barren,You who have not borne!Break forth into singing, and cry aloud,You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolateThan the children of the married woman,” says the Lord.
2 “Enlarge the place of your tent,And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;Do not spare;Lengthen your cords,And strengthen your stakes.
3 For you shall expand to the right and to the left,And your descendants will inherit the nations,And make the desolate cities inhabited.
The above mentioned verses are God’s direction to Zion spoken through prophet Isaiah. I don’t know how many of us understand the meaning of being barren. Generally it is associated with the couples who could not give birth to child. Which is true but bareness can be a bit more than a child birth. It can mean that you are labouring and wanting an increase but are not able to attain it. Bareness means what you are originally designed to do but are not able to do. For example a car which is in perfect shape has fuel in its tank but some the engine does not fire. The car is meant for transport but if it does not start its merely a toy. Bareness is not just a physical state but it can be spiritual, financial, relational etc. In this situation of turmoil the enemy uses people to intimidate us one such story is mentioned in the 1st Samuel 1:1-20. Elkanah had two wives Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah was adding kids to family on the other hand Hannah was childless over that to make the matters worst Peninnah was making Hannah feel the burnt of the situation and putting her down. The Bible says because of this overwhelming sorrow once Hannah went in the temple to pray and Eli the priest thought that she was drunk. Intimidation from the enemy can really test your faith in the testing times of bareness.
In the middle of all this God wants the barren to cry out and break into singing. Why should I sing if I am not blessed. You said you will do it, but you did not do it. Promise of God is like a cheque in hand. Cheque is someone writing an amount to be credited to you on presentation is a promise. Although you don’t see the cash in hand but still the amount is yours, you have the promise. The process of cashing the cheque is simple . You deposit the cheque with your bank and it undertakes the process of clearing it with the issuing bank. Same is the process with promises of God. You may not feel it or see it but still it is yours. Bible reminds us about the story of Abraham and his wife Sarah. God gave Abraham a promise when he was young and it was well accepted by him but Bible tells till the time he was 100 and his wife was 90, they did not get what God promised them. They were a barren couple. At this time God intervenes in their lives and did not give them a baby but changed there name. From Abram to Abraham which means father of nation and for Sarai it was Sarah which means mother or nations. Before God blessed them with Issac God changed there barren mentality. They became obedient to God and started to confess the promise with their mouths . God did what He promise against all odds. Our blessing is not dependent upon our potential its dependent on our position with God.
God’s blessing is not dependent on our potential. Abraham and Sarah were physically not in a state of give birth but they did it. Marry the mother of Jesus got the blessing out of turn, she did not see the face of man but found favour with God and gave birth to the saviour. Naomi who was well advanced in her age but she nursed the child of Ruth and Boaz.
God says lengthen your and strengthen your stakes. In other words God wants you to prepare for the blessings. Our bareness is also related to our attitude. We believe in God, we believe in His promises but are not preparing to receive the blessing. We are praying for revivals in churches but do we have the place to put the people. God will not give us something that we are not prepared to handle.
At the end when God fulfils His promise in your life what do u expect to do out of that promise. God does everything according to His purpose. Hannah did not keep Samuel to herself but dedicate Samuel to God. Abraham was obedient and was ready to sacrifice Issac on God’s command.
This is the year of Expansion God will increase you to impact and influence the lives of the others for the love of God and extension of His kingdom.
