Be Born Again

Being Born Again is a commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Anyone and everyone who believes in our Lord Jesus Christ  and believes in the kingdom of Heaven must be Born Again, in order to be a part of it. John 3 is an important dialogue between Lord Jesus Christ and a man named Nicodemus who was a ruler and a teacher in Israel. Jesus answered and said unto him, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

Nicodemus asked Him the same question you or I might ask: How can a man be born again? Can he enter into his mother’s womb again? Jesus explained to Nicodemus that the new birth He was talking about was not physical but spiritual. It was the beginning of a new life in a new kingdom.

Jesus answered, “Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” (John 3:5-7)

The way back to God is to acknowledge our need of a Savior and to accept  Jesus Christ. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus, He used an illustration Nicodemus could easily understand. A newborn baby entering its life was a perfect illustration of a person beginning a new life with God.

BORN OF THE FLESH-Jesus tells us that the gates of heaven are closed to us unless we are born again. Jesus called it being born again—a new birth. What is most outstanding is that God made a way to bring us back to Him. Jesus says, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh . . .” (John 3:6). When a child is born a new life comes forth, a new person in the flesh. So likewise when we are born again, a new life in Christ Jesus after the Spirit comes forth. Therefore it is called a birth-a new life in Christ Jesus which is to live forever.

  1. It is not a religious act. It is not baptism, for some were baptized and yet not born again. (Acts 8:18-25).
  2. It is not joining the church, for some slipped in unawares. (Galatians 2:4).
  3. It is not eating of the Lord’s table, for some ate unworthily and it brought condemnation. (1 Corinthians 11:29).
  4. It is not an outward change or trying to live better, “. . . for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able“ (Luke 13:24). It is not just about praying, for Jesus says, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me“ (Matthew 15:8).Someone may say, “If I try and do all I can; giving to the poor, visiting the sick, and be as good as I can every day, then surely I am born again.” These physical acts cannot impact our spirit  “for the carnal mind is not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be“ (Romans 8:7). WE MUST HAVE A CHANGE OF HEART. For God by the prophets says: “A new heart also will I give you“ (Ezekiel 36:26).

Anyone from any background, colour, caste, creed, gender or  in any sin can be Born Again.

(Luke 5:31-32)”They that are whole need not a physician: but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:31-32). God’s love for us is not based upon our ability to come to Him on our own merits. It is based on our acceptance that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins…and there is nothing more for us to do .For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved(Romans 10:13)

Step1 – REPENT: to repent means to turn around, to go in a new direction. What do we need to turn from? We need to turn form our life-style of sin and separation from God. We need to turn from living our lives our own way and from being our own god.

What do we turn to? We turn to God who loves and cares for us. We turn to faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior.

Step2-  BELIEVE: What is it that we must believe? We are told in the Bible we must believe that not only did Jesus shed His blood and die for us, but that he rose again from the dead and is alive today.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God have raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.(Romans 10:9-10)

Step 3- CONFESS: With the mouth confession is made unto salvation. What is it that we say? We must say what we believe—that Jesus is our Savior. We must say what the Bible says about us—that God is our Father and we have become His children.

“So, as the Holy Spirit says:Today, if ye hear his voice,” (Hebrews 3:7). That means at any age, time or place if we hear the call and respond, we can be born again by the Spirit, thus becoming children of God.

The Bible teaches us this in Romans 8:1,6,9,10  “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9). The Bible teaches us the lost are dead in sin, condemned, having an evil conscience, carnally minded, without hope, disobedient and without God in the world. Contrariwise, a born again Christian is a child of God, alive in Christ, saved, having a good conscience, spiritually minded, filled with the Holy Ghost, and faith, with a hope of everlasting life. His sins are blotted out by the blood of Jesus. His heart is filled with love and the peace of God which passeth all understanding. He who is Born Again loves, desires, and has the power to do the Lord’s will. He cherishes a hope beyond the grave, and the promise of a home in heaven. Could anyone go through such a change and not realize it? Hardly, for “the spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God“ (Romans 8:16).
